Eye Protection – Cake decorating demonstration
At a major safety kickoff for one of my clients I saw a wonderful illustration of how important safety glasses and protecting your eyesight are. They held their regular safety meeting program discussing last years successes and celebrating how well they had done. The safety director knew how important it is to keep safety fun and interesting.
On a table at the front of the room two very large sheet cakes were on display for the entire meeting. Down the middle of the cake was a white icing line dividing the cake into two equal sides. A volunteer was selected from the audience and brought to the front of the room. They were given an apron and chef’s hat to wear, several colors of cake icing and told to decorate one side of the cake for Halloween (which was the very next week). They did a pretty good job.
Next they were blindfolded and given the same icing colors and asked to decorate the other half of the cake. It was hilarious! Half of the time they missed the cake entirely. The floor next to the table got most of the icing. The laughter in the audience let you know this was a big hit. Finally they declared they were done and the blindfold was removed. Everyone laughed at the result.
The final lesson was that our eyes are worth protecting and without our eyesight life becomes more difficult.
One of the advantages of bringing a professional safety motivational speaker to your site is the experience they bring to the meeting. For over 21 years John Drebinger has been helping his clients get the safety results they are looking for.
