Personal Protective Equipment Off the Job by Safety Speaker John Drebinger

I was the safety speaker for a chemical company several years ago when I observed a great way to illustrate commitment to safety. At this particular location I was speaking, all the employees worked in an office. What I loved was as people arrived at the meeting room they were all handed a pair of safety glasses.

The message was very powerful, “We want you to be safe off the job also.” There wasn’t a location in their building where they needed safety glasses, yet the leadership of the company wanted to make sure they were safe at home and help provide the necessary equipment to do so.

I had another client in the construction industry that actually made up kits employees could check out for home use. They included respirators for handling chemicals at home and other expensive PPE.
