Safety Speakers Teach Employees to Talk With Their Family About Safety On The Job and Off the Job
It would seem logical for parents to teach their children about safety at home. Have you ever suggested your employees share stories and information about safety on their job?
Children love to hear about what their parents do at work. That’s why some places have a “Bring your child to work day”. When parents go to work looking for safety stories they can share with the family at home some interesting things happen. First, their focus is on safety throughout the day. Their thoughts are also on their family. When I do my talk, “Ensure Your Safety” I ask people why they want to work safely. The most common answer is “Family.” It is also true when someone is looking for something they are more likely to notice it. The same events that happen everyday have greater significance when you are looking for the safety lessons learned.
There are many aspects they could talk about beginning with getting a good nights or days sleep so they will be alert. Secondly, the drive to and from work is a good time to discuss the importance of safety belts in your car. You can see the power of this if they talk about it with their family they will be thinking of it more often.
Why Should They Share Safety With Their Families?
It is important for safety speakers to give employees a good reason why they would want to share work safety with their family members. One great reason is how important it is for parents to instill strong values in their children. Obviously, safety is one value every parent wants their children to adopt. When parents tell stories about how they practice safety at work it subliminally tells their children safety is important to them.
I can discover what is important to you in your life by what I hear you talk about. My friends know I am passionate about our space program, past, present, and future. They know this because I talk about it often. They know I care about missions because I talk about the work of an organization for which I am on the board of directors. I talk about mission trips we are sending people on and about the trip I took to Kenya. They also hear me talk about the Boy Scouts and the list goes on…
It is the same for your children. They know what is important to you in life by what they hear you talk about. Do they know safety is a value of yours? They are much more likely to wear a safety belt when you aren’t watching if they have made safety a value in their life. You can also share safety with your children at places like Disneyland. You could point out to your children just as I did with my grandchildren even Tinkerbell wears fall protection. As the parade passed by, I showed them the fall protection on the float characters.
Safety Presentations People Talk About At Home
One benefit of having me do my presentation is people go home and talk about it. Compared to other safety speakers more people share what they have heard. They will tell their family members about the magic tricks I did. They tell them they heard a safety presentation at work. At the very least, they tell them about the tricks at the safety meeting, which tells their friends and family their company cares enough about safety to make it a big event.
Earlier in the article, I mentioned a bring the kids to work day. I have had a few clients bring me in on such an occasion to do my presentation. This way, the kids get to hear a fun safety talk (I usually add in a few more magic tricks and use some of the children as volunteers). These same clients have put up displays of safety equipment and had stations where people could have highway patrol personnel check their car seats. Also, they have bike safety inspections. This a great way to share safety.
In my presentation, “Ensure Your Safety” I teach employees a way they can share safety with their family and friends. Call my Meeting Planner Diane Weiss at: +1.209.745.9419 or email her at diane@drebinger.com today to arrange a safety talk for your team by the best of the safety speakers.
Until next week,
I’ll be, “Watching Out For Everyone’s Safety™”
