Happy Birthday John Drebinger III by Safety Speaker John Drebinger
Twenty-one years ago, my son was born. He is a great son and a joy to my wife, Karen and me. I am reminded every day when I climb into a car, without safety, he would not have been born. The reason why? Several years before my son was born, I was driving down a highway when a truck pulled out from a side road. The driver did not see me coming after he stopped at the intersection. If I hadn’t had a seatbelt on, I would have been thrown from the vehicle and killed. So, as you can see without me, there is no him!
Sometime back in the late 1950’s or early 1960’s, someone thought of the idea of putting safety belts in cars. My first car was a 1962 Chevy Impala and it did not come with factory-installed seat belts. Instead, we went to the auto parts store and bought seat belts. My dad and I drilled several holes in the floor of the car and bolted the belts in place. Ever since then, I never drive in a car without my seatbelt fastened.
Imagine how many lives have been saved over the years just because of this one simple safety invention or innovation. I love this business. Because of your focus on safety, you are impacting the future. There are people who will be the ones who make new and greater discoveries in medicine, science, technology and other areas who will live long enough to come up with those ideas because their life was not cut short by a collision.
As a motivational safety speaker, I have the privilege of working with some outstanding safety teams. I would love the opportunity to work with yours. The impact safety teams and professionals have on our world is huge. Thank you for whatever part you play in making this a safer world.
