Experience the Consequences of Injuries by Safety Speaker John Drebinger
At the National Boy Scout Jamboree, they have many events. One of the most popular was the handicapped awareness area. It was a series of experiences Scouts and leaders could participate in so they could get a sense of what people with disabilities must deal with every day.
On a safety day, you could easily set up a wheel chair course. Also, you could simulate loss of hands by taping socks over someone’s hand. Hearing loss could be simulated with hearing protection. It wouldn’t take much imagination to come up with other ways to experience the consequences of an injury.
