Grandchildren and Safety Performance by Safety Speaker John Drebinger Nov. 6, 2014

What a wonderful time I had with my wife, my daughter, my awesome son-in-law and our two grandchildren for eleven days in Orlando, Florida. We, of course, did several days at Disney World and one day with my friends at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and the Kennedy Space Center.

In my presentation, “Ensure Your Safety”, as a safety speaker, I ask audience members why working safely is important to them. The most common answer I hear is to get home safely to their family. I can tell you a huge payoff for being safe is all the time I get to enjoy my grandchildren. My eyesight allows me to see their joy and smiles as they enjoy all they do. I can see Owen running towards me for a great big hug. I can go on a ride with Lauren and watch her as she smiles through the whole ride.

My hearing allows me to hear the sweetest sounds in my world, their voices. Screaming as we go up and down on Big Thunder Mountain. Then returning home and hearing them sing in the children’s choir at church.

Have your employees share the benefits of keeping their eyes and ears protected in a similar way as I just shared.

Another key to safety performance is to be grateful for the parts of our bodies we have kept safe over the years and the benefits we receive from them in the years to come.

The story I told was from our vacation and you can tell stories about holiday celebrations as we enter that time of the year. Be sure to discuss safety at home during the holidays and remind people to get a designated driver when they are celebrating.
