With Great Safety Speakers Word Spreads Fast
Great safety speakers find it is common for audience members to come to the front of the room following your presentation to tell you how much they liked the presentation. I particularly love it when they share how my presentation will help them on the job. They often share an application they can apply it to immediately.
Audience members often share stories with me they want me to share with future audiences. This has given me a huge catalog of stories and examples I am able to use to customize my presentation for the needs of each and every client.
Unique Among Safety Speakers
Being unique among safety speakers, I am able to share stories from different industries when I speak. Sometimes people expect all your examples to come from their industry. A very effective technique is to break that expected pattern. When all your examples are from within a specific discipline, people can quickly dismiss it as, “They’ve heard it all before.” When you take examples from outside their field they can’t shut down so quickly.
To continue where I started….After three great days at Kinross’ Fort Knox Gold Mine in Fairbanks, Alaska, I was at the airport. A young man was helping me with my luggage. He asked why I was in town and I told him to do safety presentations at the mine. He quickly perked up and said his dad worked at the mine.
I told him his father must have seen me as I had been speaking there the past three days. I mentioned I use magic in my presentations. He said, “Yeah, my dad said they had a speaker and the presentation was one of the few that held his attention. He said it was one of the best he had ever seen.” It sure is nice when word spreads to the families of my audiences. I told him to be sure to read the book his dad took home.
