If You Must You Can – by Safety Motivational Speaker John Drebinger

Posted by John Drebinger |

This concept is one I learned very early in my career as a motivational safety speaker. The genius is that when you give yourself no option other than success the creative part of your brain will create a solution.

Too often, we allow ourselves the option of not succeeding and our brain gives up after a certain level of effort.

Values drive what the “musts” in our life are. In my example yesterday, the Boy Scouts had placed the value of safety as a must. They also had the value that boys want things to be fun so fun was also a value. Their “If You Must You Can” was the events must be fun and safe. The results were that is exactly that.

When companies believe safety is a must they figure out how to make it happen.  A corporate “If You Must You Can” might be, “We must build safely, with quality and with a profit.” When you combine those three musts you will get where you need to be. The people and companies who hire me as a safety speaker are committed to safety being a must.
