Nervousness and Speaking by John Drebinger Safety Speaker

Posted by John Drebinger |

 Nervousness and Speaking
I love being a safety speaker, I love my audience and I love the impact I have on their lives. I have always enjoyed being in front of an audience. Sunday morning during a special announcement at church, I was reminded not everyone is as comfortable speaking in public.

The gentleman making the announcement was doing a great job but while I watched I saw the microphone he was holding shake. In discussing it with my wife, she mentioned she noticed how nervous he was. She also shared she was surprised because he was a leader in a local company and figured he would have been more comfortable.

You would be surprised even some top national professional speakers experience fear every time they face an audience.

As you involve people in your safety process, talk to them about their comfort level when it comes to making safety talks. If they have a challenge in this area you can help. A great resource I recommend on a regular basis is your local Toastmasters Club. You can find one at www.toastmasters.com, they have some great techniques to help anyone feel comfortable in front of an audience.

As part of my Dynamic Presentations Institute, I have included a session on overcoming discomfort in speaking. If you have people that need this help I can do a session for your organization. Just call Diane Weiss at 209-745-9419

Yours in Service,
John Drebinger Jr.
