Safety Motivational Speaker Insight – Safety Communication and Social Media

Posted by John Drebinger |

Safety Communication and Social Media

As a safety motivational speaker I am always looking for ways to share a safety message. On New Years Eve I saw an excellent use of social media to send a positive safety message. One of my Facebook friends Tom posted the following the afternoon of New Years Eve.

In following the comments I don’t believe any one took him up on the offer, however the real value is that one of their friends reminded them of the importance of only getting behind the wheel of a vehicle when you are sober. They even had a little fun a day or two later when a couple of people posted that they had been waiting for two days for their ride. I thanked Tom for actively caring for the safety of others and asked him if I could brag about his post in this newsletter.

Peer Influence on Safe Behavior
Peer pressure is a major driving force in people’s lives. Behavioral expectations are reinforced either for good or bad by the people with whom you associate. Your mom knew this and that is why she wanted to have a say in who your childhood friends were. When Tom posted this he let his friends know that he was behind sober driving and if they respect and like him they are more likely to adopt the same belief.

A little later Ross posted the following:

How To Optimize This Communication
Recruit some of your employees to post safety comments on their Facebook and other social media feeds. Once you have some examples share them with other employees at safety meetings and on billboards. You can do a screen capture of their Facebook post as I did above and then put them in newsletters.

Sample Posts Available Soon
As a safety motivational speaker I will create sample Facebook and social media posts you can use for free. I will announce their availability in this newsletter and give you links you can use to find them.
