Safety Never Takes A Holiday – Insights By Safety Speaker John Drebinger

Many people will take extra time off during the Christmas to New Years Holiday period. While they won’t have to be concerned about workplace safety they will do well to remember the importance of safety everyday. As a safety speaker I have reminded many audiences that for most people in the workplace the most dangerous time in their lives is when they are off the job. Their commute to and from work brings them face to face with people who do not share their commitment to safety.

New Years Holiday Traffic Fatalities

Just over the New Years Day holiday period (around 4 days) somewhere between 400 to 500 people will loose their life in traffic accidents. For their families the joy of the holidays is gone now and into the future. This normally happy season will be a constant anniversary of the loss of loved ones. This doesn’t even come close to counting all those who survive but sustain life altering injuries.

Personal Protective Equipment Off the Job

Please remind people of the importance of choosing a designated driver before the first drink is taken. Also remind them of the importance of safety belts. While they may be driving safely the vehicle headed for them may be driven by an impaired driver. Their seatbelt can mitigate the damage caused by someone else’s negligence.

I wish all the best for you, your family and the families of all those with whom you work. May they all return to work and school safely because of all you have taught them over the years. They are blessed because of your commitment to their safety. May you be blessed because of the difference you make in the lives of those you are charged with protecting.
