Safety Speaker Tip – Creating Your Own Fun Safety Videos
Safety Speaker John Drebinger Video Camera Tip
Over the years I have video recorded many of my presentations in order to keep improving and to create demo videos of me as a safety speaker. As a result I have quite a collection of video cameras. My marketing director Diane Weiss was asking me which of my old video cameras she could take on a Scouting event to get some video (she didn’t want anything to happen to one of my new cameras). I told her that one of the best video cameras today is the one on your iPhone. I am sure the cameras on other smart phones are just as useful. It is really amazing the high quality video and photos they are able to record. Every year I can’t wait to see the performance of the newest iPhone camera.
I was reading an article about photography and one comment they made was the best answer to the question which camera is best is, “the camera you have with you.” Because most of us carry a smart phone with a camera and video recording capability we are never without a great safety resource. My son-in-law Paul was just showing me yesterday some great safety photos he took on the job. We all are just a moment away from capturing the next great safety lesson.
An Example Of Opportunity
As a traveling safety speaker I value my time at home. I was able to go to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo California with my wife, daughter, son, son-in-law, and the grand kids. We had a great time. My wife and I did not want to ride the log ride as you definitely get wet. Instead we went to the viewing area. My son set his iPhone to slow motion video and after watching where it was safe to view and video my wife took her position. I was back a few feet so I could get a wider shot showing her and the kids going down the waterfall.
In moments the kids were going down the waterfall and we were both getting great video when a surprise wave engulfed my wife and fortunately I captured the event. I quickly posted the video to Facebook. More of our friends were responding and “liking” the video than anything else I have posted. I decided to combine the two clips and make a fun safety video when I arrived home. Saturday night I put the video into my video editor on my Mac and within minutes it was posting it to YouTube with subtitles all in place. Other Video Tools I Use As A Safety Speaker
I am sure you see things everyday that you could use to liven up a meeting. Also you can take photographs and make them into a video. In weeks to come I will share these techniques with you. They are simple and anyone can master them.
