Safety Speakers and Safety Results – Part One
Outcomes and Safety Speakers
Safety speakers come in many varieties and with a wide variance in experience and effectiveness. When you are choosing from all the safety motivational speakers in today’s workplace the first question you must ask yourself is, “What outcome do you want to achieve?”
Reactions to Safety Speakers
The danger is some people confuse the excitement of an audience with the effectiveness of the result. Many safety motivational speakers are great at telling a story that will hold your audience’s attention. Some speakers entertain their audience and make safety fun. Other safety motivational speakers can bring an audience to tears. There are even speakers who can paint a picture of an injury so effectively that some audience members may faint. This last one is a bit scary because when someone faints they have the potential of striking their head and being injured. I can’t imagine how embarrassing it would be to have to explain to a company’s leadership that someone was hurt during your safety kickoff.
Safety Speakers Delivery Methods
Attention, entertainment, fun, emotion, great story telling, all are vehicles speakers use. The secret is to remember these are only the method or technique of delivering a message. What I have taught safety motivational speakers for years in my three-day course on presentation techniques is they need to be the reason people work safer. Safety speakers must give people techniques and knowledge that will allow them to do their job safely.
Effective Safety Speakers Get Results
You always want people to leave your safety meeting, kickoff or celebration thrilled with the quality of the presentation. However it doesn’t matter if everyone is moved and then the very next day they still choose to take risks. It is easy for safety speakers to move and impress an audience; what takes real skill and ability is to get audience members to take action. Safety motivational speakers who understand this develop their presentation to allow people to take action immediately following their presentation and to continue that behavior months into the future.
