Safety Speakers and Safety Results – Part Two
Safety Speakers With Techniques Get Results
In my last blog post, I began the discussion of safety speakers and safety motivational speakers who get results. I covered that results are the true outcome of any presentation. I pointed out there are many delivery systems or vehicles which a safety speaker can use to deliver their message. I know by the results I have achieved the best safety presentation is one that is content and technique driven.
Emotional Safety Speakers Aren’t Enough
Some safety speakers work hard to create an emotional presentation they hope will impress on audience members the need to follow proper safety procedures and practices. If you think of it there are very few people who have been injured who haven’t heard a horrific story of an event in their own industry and sometimes even in their own company. Why don’t they choose to work safely from that point on? You would think that after hearing a powerful story by a safety speaker it would change behavior. One of the reasons it does not get that result is people believe, “It won’t happen to me.” In addition, I learned early in my career as a safety speaker positively stated outcomes get better results. I have interviewed top performance and success experts who confirm this. When a safety speaker states, “you don’t want to endure an injury,” that is a negative outcome. Instead safety speakers need to give an audience specific actions they should take.
Safety Motivational Speakers Provide Value
If you want effective safety motivational speakers working for you you want results. You want results like fewer injuries, fewer close calls and fewer property incidents. Effective safety motivational speakers will make audiences realize damaged property is one step away from injured people.
Effective Safety Speakers Are Content and Technique Driven
Effective safety speakers will use stories to set the tone. Their key focus is content which teaches a desired technique or behavior. In my presentation, Would You Watch Out For My Safety?® I give specific techniques which can be used immediately. People can use them even before the presentation is over. In fact, I have had someone watch out for my safety during my presentation. How cool is it for safety motivational speakers to see thei,.r ideas used immediately. People I taught in the morning have shared how quickly they used what they learned to help someone stay safe. When safety speakers give people something to do and the specific techniques of how to do it they will get much better results.
