Safety Speakers Tip – Saying the Same Message Differently

Posted by John Drebinger |

Safety Speakers Tip – Saying the Same Message Differently

The COO of a client began his message with a great line. He said he had heard the job of a pastor or preacher is to discover 52 different ways of delivering the same message. The same description would accurately define the job of the safety professional or safety speaker. In essence, safety speakers provide the same essential message in many different ways. The key is to be creative enough that your employees always hear the message as new and compelling.

It is important to realize it takes more than one attempt to get a point across. One of my mentors, Anthony Robbins, often states that repetition is the mother of success.

The challenge as safety speakers is we must develop many ways to convey our message, which are unique enough that people will continue to listen.

Use Repetition To Convey a Key Point

I have used repetition of one key point in a single message to make sure my audience members will take action immediately. I use three unique stories that teach the same lesson. Each story is interesting and worth the audience’s attention.

Another idea is to deliver your message using different presentation styles. I’ve discussed stories; however, you can use videos and other delivery techniques. With an iPhone, you can record video and photos today that would have required a professional video camera years ago.

When I started in this business 27 years ago, I had to hire a video editor to put together a video. Now you can edit your own videos and music plus graphics. You can also involve the creativity of your fellow employees. You could have a special safety video team who could write, film and edit your videos. This gets the work done and involves more and more people in your safety promotion.

Have fun thinking of the 52 different ways you will deliver your safety message this year. You will be surprised how many you can come up with.
