Secrets to Successful Safety Day Events
Involve People
As you plan the event, think of many ways more people can be involved. This can be as simple as asking someone to set up chairs and tables. Some other simple tasks could be: decorations, refreshments, publicity, and the list goes on. The key is to come up with as many jobs as possible as the more people that help increases commitment and ownership of the event. Separate these tasks instead of combining them in order to increase involvement. As a safety motivational speaker I can tell an event will be a success when I see a large number of people during the event setup.
Make Attendance Mandatory – Get the Most Out of Your Safety Motivational Speaker
I know some people hesitate to make any safety meeting mandatory; however, that can send an unintentional message. Ask yourself – do you have any mandatory events or meetings for your employees. If your marketing team has a mandatory meeting or your management has a mandatory meeting and your safety meeting aren’t; the employees understand safety is not a value in your organization. Making a meeting mandatory and taking attendance adds importance to that event. Besides when you have made the investment to bring in a safety motivational speaker
Publicity
If attendance is required why would you need publicity? Simple, publicity creates interest and excitement about an event. Some of my most effective clients place posters around the facility showing I will be speaking at that event. In the poster it mentions I will be performing magic during my safety presentation. This lets people know this isn’t going to be your average or typical safety meeting. It also gets people curious about what is going to happen. Anticipation, excitement, and curiosity all help make any event more effective.
This is another opportunity for involving more people. I am sure you have some very creative people working with you. Ask for artists, video people (for promotional videos), writers, photographers, you name it and get them involved.
Something Special
Something unique makes a safety meeting a safety EVENT. Holding the event at a special location makes it special. Having a meal as a part of the event makes it special (unless you always provide food at all meetings). I would suggest that one of the best ways to make it special is to bring in a safety motivational speaker like me. I guarantee I will make sure they experience the best safety event they have ever attended. I can assure you of this because that is the most common comment employees make about my presentations. Bringing in a safety speaker from outside your organization adds to the power of your safety event. When I do one of my many presentations (you can bring me back year after year as many clients do) the event will always be memorable.
Make it Memorable
As I mentioned in my last paragraph, great events are memorable. You want an event to be something people talk about when they get home. This multiplies your safety message and makes it more effective. People talk about my presentations for months after I am gone.
