Working Impaired by Safety Motivational Speaker John Drebinger

As a safety speaker I have learned the value of using resources in your community. It is helpful to contact your local police and fire departments to get help from them in illustrating safety concepts. Many local agencies have invested in tools that help teach safety and they don’t get to use them that often.

One tool that law enforcement agencies have access to is special glasses that create the same effect you would get from being intoxicated. During a “safety day” event you can give everyone a chance to try them.  The people put on the glasses and navigate through a course set up ahead of time. While wearing the glasses they bump into things and walk off of the course.

Safety note: I am sure the people you would get to come out know the safest way to do the demonstration. I would suggest you have someone walk beside the person so they don’t trip and fall etc.

Everyone I saw participate in this exercise realized how impaired someone really is when they have had too much to drink.
